A large, amber butterfly is set on a dark ground speckled with white to create an interesting visual effect. The slight distortions towards the edge, arising from the magnification of the dome, creates a softening of the image and helps to avoid focus on the white 1978 date cane.

The butterfly body is plain brown with white eyes and antennae. Its wings are composed of a multitude of amber tube canes.
