Paul Ysart - Filigree & Millefiori
This is a very large weight, probably from the 1930s period.
The design is a simple but pleasing mixture of coloured filigree twists and millefiori canes. At first sight, the twists and canes appear to be set randomly. But, in fact, it can be seen that the outer edge is a well-set garland. This garland is actually formed from coloured twists laid lengthwise, alternating with upright twists of gold aventurine around an orange core.
The central section of the design has the coloured twists laid out in a mostly horizontal / vertical pattern.
