Paul Ysart - Fountain
Magnum "Fountain Design"
This large weight is believed to be a pre-1950 version of the Fountain design which, in a simpler form, was in regular production in the 1970s period at the Harland works.
In this large example, six fountain arms are formed from red/white and green/white twists with gold aventurine central rods. An air bubble is placed at the central point and also at the outer edge of each arm.
The ground of the weight is made from a mass of coloured canes, some whole and some partial. The canes are set into a thin white surface - a feature seen in several Paul Ysart weights from the 1940s period.
